We encourage all our students to look carefully at apprenticeships and employment opportunities.  Increasingly apprenticeships can offer excellent training on the job.  At the same time they receive a wage and often at the end of the apprenticeship they may be given the opportunity if they choose to convert to a degree course.  Apprenticeships come at different levels and are not just available in practical areas such as construction or electrical.  We have had several students undertake successful apprenticeships in banks, business, engineering and accountancy.  Similarly there are also good employment prospects available which offer good career prospects and excellent training.

Advanced Apprentices are aimed at the more able and are also employed from day one.  At this level, the apprenticeships usually take longer to complete but this is dependent on ability.  Advanced Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to:

  • Gain higher level skills and qualifications to become the technicians or managers of tomorrow
  • Achieve a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) to level 3
  • Develop skills like team working and problem solving
  • Go on learning and gaining higher qualifications right the way to university and beyond

Higher Apprenticeships work towards work based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 4 and in some cases, a Foundation degree.
To support students considering applying for an apprenticeship we offer lunchtime workshops to help them find vacancies, offer support completing the application forms and will also arrange a mock interview if they wish.
