Grade Boundaries

Overall Grade Boundaries

The marking of AS and Advanced GCE is the same.  Whenever a grade is awarded, the boundary for each grade is determined by the percentage awarded of the maximum possible mark, as follows:-

Grade A – 80% or above
Grade B – 70% or above but less than 80%
Grade C – 60% or above but less than 70%
Grade D – 50% or above but less than 60%
Grade E – 40% or above but less than 50%
Grade U – less than 40%.  Grade U is Unclassifed.
This is known as the ‘Uniform Mark Scheme’ or UMS.

Grades are awarded for ‘Units’ of work and the maximum possible mark for a unit can be either   100, 200, 300, 400 or 600.  The percentages above are applied to the maximum possible marks to calculate the grade boundaries.  This results in the figures below – showing grade boundaries expressed as marks.
